The Stanford ChaparralReserved

Information for Students

Q: What is The Chaparral?
A: The Chaparral is a student-run humor magazine that has published continuously since humor's discovery in 1899. The Chaparral produces six print issues a year for the Stanford community, and The Chaparral website archives the best of current and past issues for a wider audience.

Q: How do I get The Chaparral?
A: The Chaparral is distributed free to all undergraduate students.

If your dorm does not allow door-to-door distribution, copies will be available in your dorm lounge.

The Chaparral is also available for free to all takers in distribution boxes near the Post Office and Tressider Student Union.

Q: How do I write/draw/sell ads for The Chaparral?
A: The Chaparral is looking for talented:
  • writers
  • artists
  • cartoonists
  • people with layout skills
  • salespeople (earn a 50% commission on all ad sales)
  • hackers
  • skaters
  • breathers (maybe you do it in some unique and interesting way?)
  • raconteurs of various heights

To join the staff, come to our regular Wednesday 8:30 pm meetings and proffer your services...or just breathe patiently on a couch and see if we notice.

Q: Where is the Chappie Office?
A: The Chappie Office is on the second floor of the Nitery Building, in Old Union at the center of campus.

Q: Is this supposed to be funny?
A: Yeah...uh, yes. Funny.

Q: Seriously. You think this is funny?
A: Um. Sort of? If you were born in the eighties?

Q: This isn't funny.
A: Cut us some slack. We've just been killing time for 108 years waiting for you to show up.

Think The Band is your only opportunity to wear stupid clothes at Stanford? Think again.

At The Chaparral, it's not just men who get pizza!

Vroom, vroom, bitch. Not all Chappies go on to ride superbikes, but...we'll let this picture speak for itself.

As the only completely flame-proof building on campus, the Chappie Office is a great place chill out on a Wednesday evening and forget about the grim specter of pyro-terrorism.
